One Vision

Intermec and IBM have been teaming together over 15 years to create proven and complete solutions that allow mobile workers to collect, track and manage the increasingly mobile enterprise. Through our alliance we have created enterprise solutions for mobile workers that incorporate industry leading handheld, stationary and fork truck mounted mobile computers that have incorporated RFID, digital imaging and speech recognition technology to advance the way that data is collected. These components have been combined with the business transformation services, middleware and industry expertise from IBM as well as communication infrastructure partnerships with Cisco, Sprint, Verizon and Cingular to create best of breed value for our customers.

Alliance Products and Projects

Intermec and IBM have a comprehensive, solutions-based portfolio that addresses key business and operational issues such as streamlining the supply chain with real-time inventory management and workforce automation. These efforts have included developing three way plays with Cisco and ISV’s to provide the end to end capabilities that customers require from proven solutions. This effort has also included the integrations of IBM Software Group products and tools into industry leading solutions: Intermec and IBM have a comprehensive, solutions-based portfolio that addresses key business and operational issues such as streamlining the supply chain with real-time inventory management and workforce automation. Java based Mobile clients using IBM WebSphere® Client Technology – Micro Edition (WCTME). IBM Java Virtual Machine is available factory loaded on many of Intermec mobile clients and is a requirement for new product development. This development tool provides the foundation for industry applications.
Connection Oriented solutions for mobile clients using IBM WebSphere® Everyplace Connection Manager (WECM). IBM Software Group WECM middleware provide secure end to end connectivity from the mobile client to the application and is available for many Intermec mobile clients as a client and server solution.
RFID readers with IBM WebSphere® RFID Device Infrastructure (WRDI). IBM Software Group’s Sensors and Actuators team has made WRDI available on Intermec IF5 RFID readers. This middleware option when combined with IBM’s WebSphere® RFID Premises Server (WRPS) automates the process of routing and managing the incoming data from RFID tags that is captured by the readers.
